The best things, I find, to keep my hair up without falling out all of the time are these scrunchies! I can whip them up in almost no time at all, they are brilliant for all hair types and they don't damage your hair like elastic hairbands.
Scrunchies are extremely simple and quick to make, perfect for a beginner. They use up scrap pieces of fabric that you might otherwise never use and you can sew dozens at a time.
You Will Need:
A 2.5inch by 24inch piece of fabric
A 9inch piece of approximately 1/4inch wide elastic ( the width doesn't have to be exact, only you don't want it too wide),
Scissors,
A safety pin or two,
A sewing machine/hand sewing tools (although hand sewing will take longer).
Method:
Take the piece of fabric and at one of the shortest ends fold a 1/4inch hem to the wrong side of the fabric.
Then fold the piece width ways, right sides together and sew a straight line from one end to the other. Make sure you also sew over the fold you made in the first step.
Now simply turn it right-side-out to give you a long tube.
Thread your piece of elastic through the tube, with the help of a safety pin, and knot the two ends of elastic together - make sure it is very secure!
Tuck the raw edge of the tube inside the folded one, make sure it's flat and sew it closed.
Done, now you can keep your hair nice and neat with an easy, but pretty, handmade scrunchie!
