It is nearly Christmas and it is time to unpack all of your decorations, also you may like to add to them... These adorable Christmas trees are the perfect Christmas project, they are simple to make, cute and very festive for the season!
There is just one small item which may be different for beginners, but is a general sewing tool. You will need for this pattern pinking shears! You use these to create the edging around the tree without the fabric fraying.
What You Will Need:
Christmas fabric (of any kind, scraps are great too!)
Twine/ribbon
Buttons
Tailors chalk/pencil
Stuffing (only a little)
Glue gun/fabric glue
Paper, pencil, ruler, etc.
General sewing equipment
Method:
Making a paper pattern:
On a piece of paper, draw a horizontal line, measuring 2".
From the centre of this line draw a vertical line, measuring 1.5".
Connect the top of the vertical line to the ends of the horizontal line to create a triangle.
From the centre of the bottom line of your first triangle, draw a vertical line measuring 2.5". But, 1" of this line will be going through the top triangle. (See picture below for extra help.)
From the bottom of this second vertical line, draw a horizontal line measuring 3".
Connect the lines to make a second triangle.
To make the last triangle draw a vertical line 3" long, with 1"going through the second triangle. (In a similar fashion as before.)
Draw a 4" horizontal line along the bottom.
Connect all points to make a third triangle.
In the centre of the bottom line of the third triangle, draw a rectangle measuring 0.5" by 1"
Cut this shape out and you have a Christmas tree!
Making the tree:
Take a piece of your fabric and fold it in half, wrong sides together. (This piece of fabric has to be large enough to fit your paper pattern on it and at least 0.5" space around it.)
Place your pattern on the fabric with a weight on top to hold it in place.
Draw lightly around the pattern.
Take the pattern off and you will have a Christmas tree on your fabric! If you would like extra security you can pin the fabric together.
Sew along the lines of the Christmas tree, but leave a small gap in the sewing on one of the lines. I like to use a contrasting thread for the sewing, such as a dark green or red!
Lightly stuff your tree. This is not to make it round or 3D, just to add cushioning.
Sew along the gap to close the hole.
Take your pinking shears and cut approximately 0.25" around you lines of sewing.
Continue these steps for as many trees as you would like!
Adding the string:
Take your trees and glue them approximately 4" apart across the string.
Glue buttons to the top of the tree.
Add any other decorations that you would like to the bunting and you are done!
